Be good to your board
How to Pamper Your Cutting Board Like a Spa Retreat
Congratulations—you’re now the proud owner of a lovely cutting board that deserves the fine treatment of a five-star day spa guest. Here’s how to keep it happy, hydrated, and far away from a tragic dishwasher demise.
Step 1: Spot the Dryness
If your board looks a little dry and tired—kind of like you before your morning coffee—it’s time for some board butter.
Step 2: Apply the Good Stuff
Scoop out a bit of that luscious blend of beeswax and food-safe mineral oil (a.k.a. “board butter”) and slather it on. You’re not icing a cake, but you’re not not icing a cake either. Be generous. Your board deserves love.
Step 3: Let It Soak It In
Let the board bask in its buttery glory for about 10 minutes. Think of this as its moisturizing face mask moment. You can hum soothing spa music or whisper words of encouragement: “You’re doing great, board.”
Step 4: Buff to a Gleam
After the soak, grab a soft towel and buff it like you’re shining a trophy. Soon your cutting board will glow with pride—and possibly reflect your smiling face.
Step 5: Keep It Clean (But Not Too Clean)
When it’s time for cleanup, wash it gently with warm water and a bit of soap. No soaking marathons, no bleach, definitely no dishwasher. (Dishwashers are basically wood torture chambers.)
Step 6: Repeat as Needed
Whenever the board starts looking a bit parched again, repeat the ritual. Your board will stay smooth, shiny, and ready for all your chopping adventures.
